Compression set testing of rubber component is explained as the difference between the original thickness of runner good and its thickness after compression and frequent recovery. It is expressed as percentage of primarily applied compression. This test helps to conclude the ability of rubbers and related components to retain their elasticity property after a long compression. The test is performed on the test specimens of specific shape and size taken from the compound which need to be tested. Compression set under regular deflection is determined after placing the test specimen either to a constant deflection and after pressing the specimen under a specific load for a specific period of time either at room temperature or at any determined temperature and permitting them to recover in a given period of time. Stech Compression set apparatus used for determination of compression, set under constant strain. The instrument consists of four stainless steel plates with parallel and flat ground faces. These frames are comprised of a rigid metallic frame. Moreover, a pair of rod is also provided with the instrument to locate the plates easily on the frame. The machine has three sets of seperators or spacers which helps to maintain the compressing thickness. Springs are placed with these separators to lift the plates upside and to release the compression load. These springs are also used to enhance the gaps between the plates to easily insert the test specimens. The test specimens are compressed with the help of a manually operated hand wheel. The entire design of the apparatus helps to apply quick compression force on the rubber sample.
